Surgery for plantar fasciitis relieves the tension or tightness of the plantar fascia to resolve heel pain; however, only 10 percent of patients who suffer from heel pain need surgery. Surgery can be performed endoscopically or through Open Plantar Fasciotomy.
Open Plantar Fasciotomy is performed through a heel incision where the medial band of the plantar fascia is cut with a surgical blade. The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis with IV sedation and under local anesthesia.
Following surgery, patients will not be able to bear weight on the affected foot 10-14 days to allow the incision site to heal. Patients gradually transition into an athletic shoe with an orthotic device.
No matter your heel pain, the doctors of Progressive Foot Care are available to evaluate and solve your heel pain problems.
