Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy

Sometimes the only solution for treating plantar fasciitis is surgery; however, usually only 10 percent of patients need surgery.

One surgical approach for treatment of plantar fasciitis is Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy (EPF). It is an advanced and minimally invasive surgical technique that is successful in treating plantar fasciitis.

EPF use an arthroscope, a surgical instrument that is advances into the heel through two half- inch incisions, that allows the surgeon to visual and release the medial band of the plantar fascia. Releasing a portion of the plantar fascia resolves most patient’s heel pain. The surgery normally takes 10 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis with IV sedation and local anesthesia. Patients normally are allowed back into a soft sneaker within two weeks. Most patients have complete resolution of pain within 2-4 weeks.

EPF is only one of surgical treatments for plantar fasciitis. It is minimally invasive and requires less down time for patient. The doctors at Progressive Foot Care are available to evaluate your pain and can let you know if EPF is a good treatment for you.
